Here is a rule of thumb to remember: The nail should always be about three times as long as the thickness of the wood through which it is driven (Fig. 6). Nails are normally driven through a thinner piece of wood and into a thicker one. This allows 2/3 of the nail to provide holding power....

IntroductionUnless you are blessed with an infallible eye for geometry, or have a completely modular design, there will come a point when a flags or block needs to be cut, or trimmed, to fit in a particular position. Different materials are cut by different methods. Three of the most common methods are described here; hammer and chisel, power saws and block splitters. The power saw...

With optimum grade selection, sub micron grain size tungsten carbide can be sharpened to a razor edge without the inherent brittleness frequently associated with conventional carbide. Although not as shock-resistant as steel, carbide is extremely wear-resistant, with hardness equivalent to Rc 75-80. Blade life of at least 50X conventional....

In Layman's terms... A diamond blade does not cut, it uses the exposed diamonds to grind through the material. The exposed diamonds in time will round over, chip, or break out of the metal in the segment. The metal now wears away to expose new diamonds, which starts the process...
